A short-pass filter is a type of cutoff filter (also known as an edge filter) within the category of interference filters. Cutoff filters are generally classified into long-pass and short-pass filters, designed to transmit light within a specific wavelength range while transitioning to reject (cut off) wavelengths outside this range. Typically, filters that reflect (cut off) shorter wavelengths and transmit longer wavelengths are referred to as long-pass filters. Conversely, those that transmit shorter wavelengths and reject longer wavelengths—effectively isolating the longer wavelengths—are designated as short-pass filters.
